Planting out the runner beans

OK, so I’m a little behind schedule (compared to all my allotment neighbours who planted them before me) but at last, they are done!

Constructing the wigwam structures was definitely a two-person job – I tried on my own, but got frustrated very quickly as they kept on crashing down before I could get finished!

The plastic holders at the top have been reused from previous years and cater for 10 upright support canes. I didn’t have 20 runner bean plants so I filled in the gaps with some ornamental squash.

Hopefully, they will be happy growing upright along with the beans.
